Course Content

To meet these industry functions the 2-day MSO courses is built around the 4 industry related modules:  

 

  • Understand the Maritime Security Industry
  • Understand Maritime Pre-deployment Planning & Procedures
  • Understand Maritime Security Operating Procedures
  • Understand Maritime Incident Management & Post Operational Procedures.    

(The units have been mapped against the syllabus for Personnel Designated Security Duties (PDSD) in accordance with STCW VI/6)

 

Upon completion of this course the MSO will be able to demonstrate and apply a practical working knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of an MSO within an MSO team. The course is delivered by Graspan Frankton instructors who are currently active within the anti-piracy security sector and brings realism to all MSO training. Furthermore, this training program is not about learning how to be a classroom MSO, it focuses on the practical application of Maritime Security.

 

Duration

This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 2 days.  

Recognition of Prior Learning (Fast Track) This 2-day Fast Track course provides those operators currently employed within the Anti-Piracy Maritime Security Industry, who can demonstrate prior learning, the opportunity to be awarded the full City and Guilds 8269 Level 3 MSO Qualification. This Fast Track course has been specifically designed to follow the requirements of ISO PAS 28007, the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) guidance for Privately Contracted Armed Security Personnel (PCASP) and the UK Department for Transports Interim Guidance to UK Flagged Shipping on the Use of Armed Guards to Defend Against the Threat of Piracy in Exceptional Circumstances.

 

Assessment

All four units will be assessed with a multi-choice question paper and a practical chart work exercise.

 
Who should attend

The MSO course is specifically designed for those operators who are currently employed within the Maritime Security sector looking to gain employment in the Maritime Security area. 

 

Some criteria that would demonstrate prior learning: SSO (Ship Security Officer) or PDSD (Proficiency in Designated Security Duties) MCA Qualification. STCW (Standards of Training Certification and Watch-keeping) Discharge Book or Company headed letter as verification of frontline working practices as an MSO.
