It does this by providing a standardised framework model of risk management that is internationally recognised. Designed during the fall out of the 9/11 attacks, it is implemented through XI-2 of the SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) Convention and is mandatory for the 148 contracting governments who have signed up to this.
The training and certifcation is in accordance with the learning objectives set out in Section A-VI paragraph 6-8 of the amended STCW Code and includes:
- Maintain the conditions set out in the ship security plan
- Recognise security threats and risks
- Undertake regular security inspections
- Use of security equipment and systems
This qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 1.5 days.
